How to Source Duvet Covers and Sheet Sets from Indian Manufacturers

Learn how to specify duvet covers and sheet sets for Indian manufacturers, including fabric construction, fibre content, thread count, dimensions, closures, stitching, labelling, sampling and quality control.

Define the bedding set before requesting quotations

A duvet cover set, sheet set and complete bedding set are not interchangeable. List every component and quantity per pack. Identify whether pillowcases, shams, flat sheets, fitted sheets, duvet covers or decorative items are included. Provide the size range and the exact pack configuration for each SKU.

Fabric and construction details

  • Fibre composition: specify cotton, linen, polyester or a blend using exact percentages supported by supplier material records.
  • Construction: identify the weave, yarn type, fabric weight and finishing treatment. If thread count is requested, state how it is to be verified and do not use it as the only quality measure.
  • Finishing: specify any mercerising, brushing, garment washing, easy-care treatment or other finish, together with the buyer’s performance expectations.
  • Colour and print: provide Pantone or approved physical standards, print artwork, placement and acceptable shade variation.
  • Care and labelling: provide approved fibre names, care instructions, country-of-origin and brand label requirements.

Measure each component accurately

For duvet covers, specify finished width and length, closure type, button or zipper details, internal corner ties if required, and seam construction. For fitted sheets, state mattress width, length, depth and any elastic requirements. For flat sheets and pillowcases, provide finished dimensions and hemming details. The buyer should approve a size chart with clear measuring points and tolerances.

What affects fabric selection and price?

Fabric price is influenced by fibre, yarn quality, weave, yarn count, weight, finishing, dyeing or printing, width, order quantity and processing requirements. A higher thread-count claim does not automatically guarantee better product performance. Ask the supplier to identify the construction, weight and finish behind the quotation so competing offers can be compared on the same basis.

Sampling and bulk approval

  • Approve fabric swatches and colour standards before making the full set.
  • Review one complete set in the intended pack configuration, not only a single pillowcase or fabric panel.
  • Check dimensions, seam quality, closure operation, corner ties, elastic recovery and matching between components.
  • Wash or test the sample under an agreed method when shrinkage, colourfastness or dimensional stability is important.
  • Record the approved sample, fabric, trims, label artwork and packing method as the bulk production reference.

Inspection checklist for bedding sets

  • Fibre and fabric details agree with the approved specification and purchase order.
  • Finished dimensions and tolerances are checked for every component and size.
  • Stitching, hems, closures, zippers, buttons and elastic are secure and functional.
  • Colour, print placement, shade matching and surface appearance are consistent.
  • All components are included, correctly folded, labelled and packed in the correct assortment.

Private-label packaging and shipping

Specify the retail pack, insert, belly band, reusable bag or other packaging format. Include artwork version, barcode, item number, size indication, language, carton quantity and marks. Confirm whether the product is packed individually or as a set, and approve a packed sample before bulk packing. The importer should review the exact fibre and care statements before label production.

Common sourcing mistakes to avoid

  • Requesting a price without defining every set component and finished dimension.
  • Comparing thread-count claims without checking fabric construction and actual specifications.
  • Approving a fabric swatch but not a complete finished set.
  • Leaving shrinkage, colour variation, closure and packaging requirements undefined.
  • Changing labels or pack configuration after bulk production has started.
