German home-textile buyers evaluating suppliers in India need a consistent way to compare product construction, material specifications, factory capability and quality evidence. The right supplier depends on the exact product, materials, finishing processes, planned quantities and delivery window. A general catalogue or low unit price is not enough to establish that a factory is suitable for a bedding, bath or decorative-textile programme.

Vanguard Sourcing is an India-based sourcing and production coordination partner for international retailers, importers and private-label brands. This guide helps German buying teams prepare a sourcing brief and assess Indian suppliers for home textiles.

Home-textile categories to evaluate

  • Bedding: duvet covers, sheet sets, pillowcases, quilts, bedspreads, coverlets and comforters.
  • Bath textiles: towels, bath sheets, hand towels, bath mats and bath rugs.
  • Decorative textiles: cushion covers, throws, blankets, curtains and table linen.
  • Textile floor coverings: selected woven, tufted and printed rug constructions.

Prepare a product specification before requesting offers

Provide the supplier with a reference sample, technical drawing or clear product photographs. Specify fibre composition, fabric construction, yarn or material details where relevant, finished dimensions, tolerances, weight or GSM, colour standard, finish, workmanship, labels and packaging. For filled bedding, specify shell fabric and filling separately, including composition, weight, distribution and quilting construction.

For each style, state the quantity, size and colour assortment, target shipment window, destination and any product testing or documentation requirements. A German-language artwork or care-label file should be supplied as an approved version rather than left for the factory to interpret.

Assess the factory by its actual process capability

Different home-textile constructions require different machinery and process controls. Check whether the proposed factory has relevant experience in the specific product, and confirm where cutting, sewing, quilting, printing, dyeing, tufting, finishing and packing will take place. Ask which operations are subcontracted and how quality is maintained across those locations.

Review production capacity against the size and colour mix, material sourcing arrangements, sample process, quality procedures and previous product examples. Where a supplier provides certificates or audit documents, verify the holder, issuing body, scope, validity and product or site coverage.

Sampling, quality and documentation

Approve a representative sample against the written specification before bulk production. Record the material, dimensions, shade, construction, workmanship, labels, packaging and permitted variations. For home textiles, the quality plan may include fibre verification, dimensions, shrinkage, colourfastness, seam quality, filling distribution, weight, pile or backing construction and care or performance tests where relevant.

For products placed on the EU market, the responsible importer should identify the applicable product safety, chemical, textile-fibre labelling, packaging and environmental-claim requirements for the specific SKU and sales country. Agree who arranges testing, who reviews documents and who approves the final artwork. Vanguard Sourcing can coordinate supplier document collection and testing follow-up within an agreed project scope; regulatory determinations should be confirmed by the importer and qualified advisers.

Compare MOQ, quotation and landed-cost assumptions

MOQ can be affected by fabric or yarn minimums, dyeing and printing batches, filling materials, trims, packaging and production setup. Request MOQ by style, colour and size assortment. Compare quotations using the same specification, quantity, packaging and trade term. Show sample costs, testing, inspection, freight, insurance, import duties and taxes, customs clearance and destination handling separately when building a landed-cost view.
