PRODUCTION-STAGE INSPECTION INDIA

Initial Production Check, DUPRO and In-Line Inspection in India

Identify issues early while there is still time to correct the production process.

Initial production check (IPC), during-production inspection (DUPRO) and in-line quality checks are used at different points in a manufacturing programme. Vanguard Sourcing helps buyers define the appropriate checkpoints, coordinate factory access and appointed inspectors, and follow findings or corrective actions with suppliers.

These checks are not interchangeable. An IPC looks at early production and whether the approved materials and process are being followed; a DUPRO review examines work during production; in-line checks focus on controls within the production flow. The exact scope depends on the product and buyer’s quality plan.

Scope Matched to the Product and Task

Inspection, audit, sourcing and production coordination are different tasks and should be assigned to people or providers with relevant capability.

When each production-stage check is useful

Inspection timing should reflect the risk of the product and process. For example, a material or print issue may need to be identified before a large quantity is completed, while a final packaging check may occur near shipment.

  • IPC: first production output, material identity, colour, construction, setup and sample matching.
  • DUPRO: work-in-progress quality, output quantity, defect trends, measurements and production status.
  • In-line: defined control points for sewing, assembly, finishing, printing, tufting or other production operations.
  • Corrective action: root cause, responsible person, recheck date and evidence of correction.
  • Escalation: repeat defects, material substitution, process changes, delay or capacity concerns.

How the engagement is structured

Frequently Asked Questions

Is DUPRO the same as pre-shipment inspection?

No. DUPRO occurs while production is underway; pre-shipment inspection generally assesses finished goods close to dispatch.

Does an IPC replace sample approval?

No. A buyer should approve the relevant pre-production sample and specifications before bulk begins. IPC checks whether early bulk output follows those approvals.

Can an inspection prevent every production defect?

No. It can help detect issues at selected checkpoints but cannot guarantee zero defects. Process controls and product specifications remain essential.
